Grants Pass and the Rogue River
Grants Pass is a forty-five minute drive from Country Hills Resort. In Grants Pass, you'll find a city where there's lots to do, convenient shopping and also be able to take a memorable ride through wild rivers to the coast on the Hell Jet cruises.
Once on the coast, there's lots more to explore...and you can spend the night in a fine lodge or motel along the oceanfront in Gold Beach and take a different cruise before returning to Grants Pass and, should you find yourself longing for the peaceful woods again, return to stay with us.
Grants Pass is also home to world-famous Fire Mountain Gems, where you can book a tour of their facility and glimpse some of the most remarkable mineral carvings from the local area and around the world. A must for beaders, aspiring jewelry makers and those seeking inspiration for future creations. Here it must be said that Fire Mountain Gems had their humble beginnings in Cave Junction, but moved to Grants Pass as they "outgrew" the Illinois Valley and began to expand on a more global scale.
There are many eateries in Grants Pass, but the most interesting of these are to be found off the main drag and while exploring the "old Downtown". Here I will mention Abu's Oasis Deli for those of you who enjoy tasty Greek and Mediterranean food. Abu's can be found at: 1330 NW 6th Street in Grants Pass, or call (541) 476-1425 to make sure they're open. Click HERE to get to a site that describes the majority of restaurants in Grants Pass, Cave Junction and the surrounding area. And remember, your browser's 'back' button will return you to the Country Hills Resort site.
Of course, if you stick to Highway 199 past the exit for Downtown Grants Pass and keep going past the turnoff for 238, you'll see large grocery stores, Fred Meyer and a "Super Wal-Mart" and the familiar family restaurants like Applebee's and the convenient drive-thru of McDonald's and other fast-food emporiums.
Anyone who has eaten at the Wild River Brewery in Cave Junction should know there's also a larger version of Wild River in Grants Pass, with a more extensive menu and great brews. The pizza is very good at either location! The Cave Junction eatery has more of a "down home" feel to it, with big tables and benches, whereas in Grants Pass there is a more formal atmosphere of small tables, booths, bustling waiters and a larger crowd. When you want "laid back", a good rule of thumb is to stick to the area around Cave Junction. When you're looking for more activities, more hustle and bustle, Grants Pass is a good starting point.
