From the coast, ride the wild Rogue...

There are numerous services, adventures and once-in-a-lifetime thrills to be experienced from the city of Gold Beach on the Oregon coast. This writer mentions Gold Beach for the following reasons:

• First and foremost, it is a place where many Writers reside and congregate. Each year, coinciding with the President's Day weekend, there's the South Coast Writer's Conference. Worth the trip!
• Many white water cruises, fishing charters, fine dining and even horseback riding on the beach can be enjoyed in and in close proximity to, Gold Beach.
• The largest bookstore on the Oregon coast is located in the heart of Gold Beach. If you love bookstores (and I know I do!) you are sure to be impressed by Gold Beach Books! The Biscuit Coffeehouse and Art Gallery are housed within Gold Beach Books. Those who are on a diet a duly forewarned the Biscuit Coffeehouse has some sinfully good pastries and rich coffee drinks. And the Biscuit Art Gallery features, as you might expect, the work of local artists.
• The Southwestern end of the Kalmiopsis Wilderness area is very accessible from Gold Beach.

Just walking Gold Beach from the North Jetty of the Rogue to the Visitor's Center at the South end of town and back again is a significant workout! Many locals do this as part of their daily "Cardio workout". And you're likely to find at least one splendid beach agate or carnelian without having to look very hard.

Should you stop at the Port of Gold Beach, be sure to head over to the North Jetty and Wedderburn area and pay a visit to the Jetty Cats. Bring your camera! Consider adopting one of the felines and bringing them into your home!

Recommended places to stay are at Ireland's Rustic Lodges and the Gold Beach Inn. These are cooperatively owned and operated and each offers an unique and close-up experience of one of wildest and most beautiful beaches on the Oregon coast.

FOR HARDCORE ADVENTURE

Pick up Jerry's Rogue Jets in Gold Beach and spend the day on a round-trip cruise and drive back to Country Hills Resort, or spend the night out in Gold Beach. Recommended places to stay are Ireland's Rustic Lodges or the Gold Beach Inn, which are adjacent to one another and are cooperatively run. Here is a link to their web pages:
